The rehearsed reading of brand new play “Behind the Hoe” written By Mark Norfolk based on Baltazar Lopes' beautiful novel, “Chiquinho” took place in March at The Muse Gallery & Performance Space in London. The performance featured young actor Akil Young as Chiquinho with Linda Mathis, Bernardino T Fernandes, Ken O Smart, Sabrina Laurison, Chidinma Ifunanyachi and Marc Nicolson making up the cast. There was a tremendous atmosphere on the night with a wonderful audience who witnessed Lopes' great novel spring to life. The event was also live-streamed which allowed Cape Verdeans back home to look in on an English translation of a masterpiece. The outcome of the reading demonstrated that there is a hunger for such works and TICAVE will certainly be looking at opportunities to exact a full production in the future.
